November 9-13
This week was a shortened week, due to Veteran's day. I am trying to ensure that all students cover the material in their units before Thanksgiving Break so they can be tested before leaving for a week. Students in Algebra have been working on slope and writing lines of equations in slope-intercept form. Geometry students are working on parallel lines, learning about angles that are formed with transversals and how they relate to each other.
I tried an activity with Geometry students where they discovered the relationship between the angles created with transversals and parallel lines. I felt it was a good way to do something "different" that still involved the content and would introduce the material well, but students did not seem to appreciate the activity. It's hard to find things that will interest and excite the students while staying on topic with the large class sizes. It is very hard to keep all students on task while working with activities.
Next week, I will be attending the NCTM national converence in Nashville, TN. I am excited about such a great professional development opportunity!!
